“Online editing services: do they have a place in your client portfolio?”

12 April 2019, 18.30-20.30 (doors open at 18.00)

Instead of hiring freelance SENSE members to edit their texts, some Dutch scholars and scientists choose to use one of the many online editing agencies, such as those promoted on the websites of journal publishers like Elsevier and Springer Nature. In this UniSIG meeting, which has been scheduled for the early evening, we’ll exchange views and experiences about working for such agencies. The scene will be set by SENSE member Curtis Barrett, who will give a short presentation in which he’ll share the insights and experiences he gained from working for one of the largest international online science editing agencies, where he cut his teeth as a beginning editor. He will also talk about why he stopped working for agencies, and how you can tell when it’s time to leave the relative safety of an agency and strike out on your own. If anyone else would also like to reserve a slot to talk about their experiences, please let me know – otherwise, we’ll simply let the discussion develop spontaneously.

As usual, the meeting will segue into Dutch-treat social networking downstairs in the hotel bar.

All SENSE members are welcome to attend the meeting. To register, please click on the Register button at the top of this page.

I look forward to seeing you in April.

Joy Burrough-Boenisch (UniSIG convener)
